Adelaide, Australia

Polish Theatre Stary is the oldest, continuously performing amateur theatre group in Australia.

The group was established in 1955 as Friends of the Theatre to meet the cultural void experienced by Polish post World War II migrants in Adelaide and to promote Polish cultural activities. Since the incorporation, the group has changed its name twice, finally settling on its present name Stary. The Theatre is run totally by volunteers. There are no paid functions in the group.

Over the past 67 years, the group staged over 100 stage productions.

Polish Theatre Stary produces plays, however its repertoire includes cabarets, poetry recitals and radio programs.

Theatre Stary stages plays mainly by Polish authors but in recent years started introducing authors of other nationalities to bring modern international plays, with Polish translation, to the Polish community.
