Christchurch, New Zealand
POLONUS – Polish Folk Dance Group was established in 2014 by the members of the Polish Association in Christchurch, New Zealand. The group comprises first, second, and third-generation New Zealanders of Polish origin. Members’ ages range from 17 to 59 and all share the same love for Polish folk dance and music. For all members of Polonus, folk dancing is not just a hobby; it is a passion for dancing, performing and everything Polish.
In January 2016, Dorota Kaminska Pawlas joined as a choreographer, and as such, the group’s repertoire has been enriched with dances from the Cieszyn region and more Polish national dances. Polonus has since gained new members and evolved to become experienced Polish folk dancers. The group regularly performs in the Polish community and at multicultural events in the Canterbury region of New Zealand.
Polonus has attended PolArt twice; first at Melbourne in 2015 and more recently at Brisbane in 2018, and looks forward to participating in PolArt, Sydney 2022.
