Melbourne, Australia
POLONEZ was formed in 1965 by Zbigniew Czech, supported by the Federation of Polish Organisations in Victoria, in order to practise and promote Polish folk song and dance. Not only does it present annual full-length concerts, and supports all the local Polish commemorative and community events, it performs at local multicultural events, and has travelled and performed extensively in Victoria and around Australia. It has participated in every PolArt Festival.
POLONEZ has travelled overseas four times to Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine. It has performed at the Festyn Kultury Polskiej, Kwiaty Polskie, in Niemenczyn, near Vilnius in Lithuania, at the World Festival of Polish dance Groups held in Rzeszów, Poland three times, and at the famous Teatr Wielki in Lwów, the Lviv National Opera, in Lviv, Ukraine.
With three age groups, a folk band and a female choir, POLONEZ is family oriented and lies in the heart of the Polish community in Melbourne from where it draws its strength.
