Lineup | Dance | Oberek – Polish Folk dance Ensemble
Hobart, Australia
In 2022 Oberek proudly celebrate 70 years of dancing our way around Hobart under the guidance of a number of talented artistic directors including our founder Mrs Sewera Kopias Sobieraj, followed by Mr Bohdan Burbo and Mr Michal Stankiewicz as musical director without whom we would not be here today.
Oberek has proudly showcased its extensive repertoire and rich array of costumes to the Polish Community in Hobart, Launceston and in Hydro-Electric Commission camps with the ensemble also performing for the Australian community at schools, theatres and hospitals engaging Tasmanians in our Polish traditions.
With a strong community following, Oberek has been privileged to travel widely around Australia and abroad, attending PolArt Festivals since 1975 and performing in Poland at the ‘Rynek Krakowski’.
As Oberek celebrates 70 years of Polish Folk Dancing in Tasmania, we look back with nostalgia and gratitude for the effort and achievements of those before us and to the future with hope and excitement at the continued awareness and appreciation of our Polish cultural heritage and its contribution to the enrichment of Australia’s cultural life and identity.
